Changes to the British Standard for Slating and Tiling BS 5534

Although becoming mandatory since the end of February 2015. It surprises me how many times we have seen roofers not installing roofs to the new standard.  Whilst installing to the British Standard isn’t a requirement by law, it can be included within a specification and upheld in a court if necessary.manufacturers providing products for the roofing industry will usually ensure their installation guidelines closely follow the standard,If not fitted to manufacturers specification the warranty on a roof can often be worthless. Also, most third party warranty providers, such as the NFRC, the Competent Roofer scheme or Zurich, will only cover a building if it has been installed to relevant British Standards.
